We have been in operation since 1970 when Ernest Waterhouse created the business by selling rolls of sod door to door and from his pick up truck. Named after Ernest's beloved wife Beverley, Ernie hired Peter McCuaig, the current owner, at the age of 16 and taught Peter about sod for the next 4 years.
After high school, Peter continued his education at Queens University where he studied Civil Engineering. In 1979, Peter finished school and returned to the sod farm where he continued to work with Ernie for the next five years. In 1984, Ernest retired and sold the sod company to Peter.
Beverley Turf Farms Ltd. has now been in operation since 1984 with Peter McCuaig as owner. The business has grown from 250 acres to over 700 acres of top quality Kentucky Bluegrass in 25 years.
The sod farm has become a family business over the years, starting with David McCuaig, Peter's younger brother. At the age of 16, David joined the sod farm team working for Ernie just like his older brother. He has been with the sod company since 1978 and has become the company Foreman. In most recent year's Peter's son, Kirk, and daughter, Kelly joined the team in the field and in the office.
Beverley Turf Farms Ltd. has nine different fields, six delivery trucks, two Trebro Auto Stack Harvesters and one mission: deliver top quality Kentucky Bluegrass to customers in Central and Northern Ontario.
